The Shelter Liverpool: An Underground House Sanctuary
Tucked beneath Paradiso nightclub, The Shelter Liverpool has grown into one of the UK’s most exciting homes for soulful, bumpy and deep house. It’s not about glitz or excess here—it’s about energy, intimacy, and a sound system that rattles your bones while wrapping you in warmth. For real heads, Shelter has become a must-do pilgrimage.
Setting the Tone
The Shelter’s story kicked off with Groove Assassin, a pioneer of underground soulful house, laying down the blueprint for what this night would be all about. That very first birthday also featured Ryan Coughlan, Martin Blaize, and residents Aston & Max Evans, setting the stage for a movement rooted in authenticity.

Heavyweights on the Decks
Since then, the booth has seen some serious firepower. Booker T, Grammy-nominated and one of the UK’s true house royalty, tore it down for Shelter’s fifth birthday, alongside the slick, soul-infused sounds of Café 432 making his Liverpool debut. Add in Lev’s rising talent and DJ Yung Fox’s bouncing rhythms, and it was a night that locked Shelter’s reputation in place.
The 9th edition pulled in Neil Pierce, Deep Into Soul co-founder and a cornerstone of London’s soulful house scene—alongside Sean McCabe, whose garage-flavoured productions have landed on countless record bags, and Brother James, a force from the SoulFusion camp. It was a masterclass in deep grooves and UK house history.
And who could forget Jovonn’s three-hour journey at the 3rd birthday? A legend of New York deep house, his set was paired with Toolate Groove’s UK debut, an artist channelling jazz, nostalgia, and future-facing house into a sound that felt tailor-made for Shelter’s basement.
Looking forward, Shelter 11 is already buzzing with the upcoming Liverpool debut of Jullian Gomes, the South African selector known for blending soulful house with rich emotional storytelling.

The Rooftop Sessions
Shelter doesn’t stop underground. Their Sunday rooftop takeovers at Modo bring the same spirit into the open air, with selectors like Billy Cocks, David Bailey, Martin Lodge, and Pablo Martinez soundtracking sunsets over Liverpool. It’s proof that Shelter isn’t just a night—it’s a community, one that knows how to celebrate house in every form.
More Than a Party
At its core, The Shelter is about connection. It’s about Aston & Max Evans holding it down as residents, about legends passing through to drop unforgettable sets, and about a crowd that comes ready to dance, sweat, and live the music. In a city with no shortage of nightlife, Shelter has built something rare: a soulful sanctuary that keeps the underground alive.
